Course Aims & Objectives
To enable all delegates to safely plan, put in place, and carry out safe systems of work, including basic risk assessments required to undertake safe electrical isolation procedures and lock off tag out in accordance with the requirements of the Electricity at Works Regulations 1989 & HTM06-02. This session provides all attendees with the necessary knowledge to undertake safe isolation of low-voltage equipment and systems.
Course Content
- The dangers of electricity.
- The Regulations – their purpose, scope & legal standing.
- The need for safe systems of work, risk assessments and permits.
- An understanding of the requirements of GS 38.
- An understanding and key requirement of HTM06-02.
- Identification of safe points of isolation.
- Lock off devices.
- How to carry out safe isolation of electrical circuits and the process to achieve it.
- Proving Dead.
- Removal of isolation and restoring normal operation.
- Safe isolation demonstration, workshop & Q&A.
- Practical Safe isolation assessment of each learner.
- Endpoint assessment – close.
- Comprehensive course handout.
- *A GS38-compliant Voltage indicator & proving unit plus a LOTO kit can be provided for each delegate attending this course at an additional cost.
Delivery
This course is delivered by a time-served electrical engineer with over thirty-five years of contracting experience. Over twenty years of that being a Director and Electrical Duty Holder for an FTSE100 PLC and an Electrical Utility Supplier, a former NIC EIC QS & PDH. a Member of the IET, a licentiate of City & Guilds and holder of the Level 3 award for Education & Training.
