For any electrician, or multiskilled engineers working on, or near isolated electrical equipment including class one street lighting, safe systems of work/compliant equipment, safe isolation and lock-out tag-out procedures, safe points of isolation, including practical safe isolation assessment. PEN, Diverted Neutral Current fault identification on class one street furniture demonstration rig.

  • Course Duration: Half day.
  • Delivery: Delivery classroom-based.
  • Assessment Method: Multi-choice end point assessment paper, plus practical safe isolation assessment.
  • Accreditation: Independently CPD certified, learners will receive a CPD-certified certificate of attendance from GCS Doncaster Ltd upon completion.

Course Aims & Objectives

To enable all delegates to plan safely, put in place, and carry out safe systems of work, including basic risk assessments required to undertake safe electrical isolation procedures and lock off tag out under the requirements of the Electricity at Works Regulations 1989. This session provides all attendees with the necessary knowledge to undertake safe isolation of low-voltage equipment and systems.

Course Content

  • The dangers of electricity.
  • An understanding of the requirements of GS 38.
  • Identification of safe points of isolation.
  • Lock off devices.
  • How do we carry out the safe isolation of electrical circuits, and what is the process to achieve it?
  • Proving dead.
  • Removal of isolation and restoring normal operation.
  • An overview of PEN faults and diverted neutral currents, plus methods to detect them on class one street furniture.
  • Safe isolation demonstration, workshop & Q&A.
  • Practical safe isolation assessment of each learner.
  • End-point assessment – close.
  • Comprehensive course handout.
  • *A GS38-compliant Voltage indicator & proving unit plus a LOTO kit can be provided for each delegate attending this course at an additional cost.

Delivery

This course is delivered by a time-served electrical engineer with over thirty-five years of contracting experience. Over twenty years of that being a Director and Electrical Duty Holder for an FTSE100 PLC and an Electrical Utility Supplier, a former NIC EIC QS & PDH. a Member of the IET, a licentiate of City & Guilds and holder of the Level 3 award for Education & Training.
